FAQ's
No not all animals will require vet consent prior to booking your first session. However, if your animal has an undiagnosed condition or diagnosed condition, vet consent is required. e.g. your horse has just trotted up lame but your vet hasn't seen to your horse yet or your dog has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia by a vet. If your animal is completely healthy with NO undiagnosed conditions vet consent is not required.
If I have never treated your animal before, the first session will be an 'initial assessment' as I will complete a through examination of your animal which will include finding out their background history, static/dynamic assessment, palpation (feeling for areas of tightness in muscles etc) and range of motion tests (assessing joints for abnormal movement) as this helps shape the course of treatment.
Any following sessions will be classes as 'maintenance' which will begin with a general assessment of the animal (feeling for any changes between treatment sessions) followed by massage therapy which will make up most of the session time.
This will vary for each individual animal and is based off various factors such as the goals you would like to achieve with your animal (e.g. return to agility or to have your horse as a happy hacker after injury). We will discuss goals within the first appointment to help tailor the physiotherapy session(s) to your animal. Many owners opt for physiotherapy for maintenance for their animal which can be about 4-8 weeks between visits to help keep them feeling their best whilst others prefer a visit as of when they feel it is needed, as owners know their animals best!
Most insurance companies provide cover for treatment as it is categories as a 'complementary treatment', however, vet consent/referral may be required to entitle you to this. Please contact your insurance company to confirm as some policies vary.
